2025: Wind Seminar 2: From wind to hydrogen – the energy of the future?
Tuesday 18 March
The key takeaways from top-level EU policymakers and industry CEOs at a summit in November 2024 were as follows:
• Renewable hydrogen is happening in Europe. That the EU is the only market with a nearly complete legislative framework for renewable hydrogen is a key reason and this is beginning to deliver tangible progress.
• Europe is in a scale or fail moment: While ambition and some progress is there, Europe needs to accelerate to stay in the race. Targeted measures are required.
• Demand: Creating green lead markets will be key to unlocking demand for green products made with renewable hydrogen and derivatives.
• Funding: Public funding is crucial in this early market phase but too limited so far. Scaling will not happen without bridging the full cost gap with polluting fossil fuels. The European Hydrogen Bank is the right tool to help there. Member States should use the “Auction as a Service” to ensure speed, simplicity and scale.
• Boost electrolyser, wind and solar technology manufacturing in Europe to increase strategic autonomy.
• Better infrastructure planning is needed to increase the production of electrolyser, wind and solar technologies, and to connect renewable power production with renewable hydrogen consumption hubs across Europe. This means building hydrogen pipelines but also making electricity grids fit for the electrification age, including interconnections and locating electrolysers in areas with renewables surplus to increase flexibility.
But, what about Finland?
From wind to hydrogen – the energy of the future?
From wind to hydrogen – Is hydrogen really the energy of the future?

Are the Finnish next generation energy conversion systems poised to be acquired by foreign players to succeed?
