EnergyWeek focuses on the energy of the future, with sustainable solutions and innovations running throughout the event program. Behind the scenes, we work together with our visitors to reduce the event’s carbon footprint by promoting environmentally friendly transport and minimizing material waste.
All of EnergyWeek’s main program takes place in the heart of Vaasa. The city actively addresses environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss in various ways. In recognition of these efforts, Vaasa was awarded the prestigious European Green Leaf 2026 title in 2024.
– Vaasa promotes public transport, cycling, and walking, offering many options for environmentally friendly travel. The city hall, where EnergyWeek is held, is centrally located within walking distance of the train station and numerous hotels, says Kristoffer Jansson, Brand & Communication Manager at EnergyVaasa, and adds:
– Vaasa is also easily accessible by train, plane, or ferry, and we encourage all visitors to choose the most environmentally friendly travel option available.
Over the years, EnergyWeek has grown into a large-scale event, attracting industry experts from across Finland and abroad. For those traveling within Finland, the train is an excellent choice, bringing you directly to the city center, just a short walk from many hotels and the event venue. Visitors from Sweden are encouraged to take the environmentally friendly passenger ferry, which operates between Umeå (Sweden) and Vaasa (Finland).
During EnergyWeek, biogas-powered EnergyWeek buses take visitors to and from Vaasa Airport on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Additionally, we challenge all air travelers to consider offsetting the CO₂ emissions of their flights.
– We will also continue to offset the carbon footprint of speakers’ travel to and from EnergyWeek, as we have done since 2020, says Jansson.
Another key aspect of EnergyWeek’s sustainability efforts is reducing material waste and promoting local suppliers. As a result, printed materials at the event have been kept to a minimum. The EnergyWeek website has been redesigned in 2024 to ensure all information is easily accessible online. Additionally, all speaker gifts are locally produced and environmentally friendly.
Last, but not least, the lanyards are made from recycled materials, and the aim is to reuse them, along with the plastic pouches for tickets, at multiple events. Therefore, everyone is encouraged to return them after the event – or bring their own lanyard to showcase their company colors.
