The Clean Gas Energy is an international networking event for energy experts focusing on focusing on gas, hydrogen and e-fuels in all forms for power generation, transport, shipping and industry. The seminars and exhibitions are aimed for professionals such as manufacturers & sub-suppliers, research and expert organizations, consultants, educators etc. EnergyWeek’s gas-day is the biggest networking event within this sector in the Nordics.

The Clean Gas Energy is organised by Expomark Oy in partnership with Alcea Oy and Novia University of Applied Sciences.

What are the Fuels of the Future for Long-Haul Heavy Truck Transports?

With rising demand for greener goods transport, logistics companies face significant challenges to meet customer expectations. While battery technology offers promising solutions, their limited range for long-haul heavy transports call for additional solutions. This seminar will examine the roles of biogas, e-methane, and hydrogen in accelerating the green transition. Industry experts will discuss fuel availability, market demand, and recent technological advancements, sharing insights into how these fuels can support a sustainable future for long-distance heavy trucking.

The seminar concludes with a panel discussion led by Kjell-Owe Ahlskog, Managing Director at Alcea Oy.

Available fuel alternatives for long haul heavy truck transports

Long-haul heavy truck transports is a hard to abate sector, and it is not easy to find alternatives that can compete with the technical and economical features of the traditional diesel fuel.

Johan Laurell from Energigas Sverige has long experience from working with the energy transition within the transport sector. He will provide insight into the different alternative technologies and fuels that are available, and their pros and cons.

Geographical conditions as well as types of transports are important factors to consider when evaluating the different alternatives. Johans main message is that there is no silver bullet, but different solutions will be needed to address the varying needs and conditions.

How to secure access and availability of the new green fuels?

The green transition within the transport sector is a typical so called “Chicken and egg” problem. Transport companies who plan to invest in new technology want to be sure that they have access to the new fuels at the right time, place and price. At the same time, those who invest in production and distribution of these new fuels want to be sure that there is a big enough market for the fuels.

WSP Finland have made several analyses of the expected infrastructure development in the Pohjanmaa and other regions in Finland. Johanna Nyberg will share the results from these analyses and give us insight into how the network of charging stations as well as gas and hydrogen filling stations are expected to develop in the coming decades.

Renewable gases, the most cost-efficient way to decrease emissions for long-haul heavy truck transports

Biogas, a 100% renewable energy source, offers a viable solution to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in long-haul heavy truck transport across the Nordic countries. By switching to liquefied biogas (LBG), heavy-duty vehicles can achieve emission reductions of up to 90% compared to traditional diesel fuels. Beyond environmental benefits, biogas is also a cost competitive alternative when considering the total cost of ownership (TCO).

The truck producers’ view on the green transition within long-haul heavy truck transports

The transition to sustainable transport is a pivotal challenge, and truck manufacturers are at the forefront of driving change. This presentation will explore the truck producers’ perspectives on advancing green technologies to reduce emissions and meet global climate goals. Special focus will be placed on the unique conditions of the Nordic countries, including long transport distances, heavy loads, and harsh climates. These factors present specific challenges for implementing various solutions. Michael Mannfors from Scania will present how they are addressing these challenges and what solutions that they see will dominate within the different segments.
