Seth Miller

Dr. Seth Miller is a technology consultant and entrepreneur with over 25 years experience leading R&D and commercialization efforts in chemistry and materials-based businesses. He holds 94 US patents and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Caltech, and has served as CEO, CTO, or CSO at seven technology startups. He is currently a Professor of Practice at the University of Vaasa, teaching the course Transformation Design on the process of disruptive innovation.

Dr. Miller is President of Heron Scientific, a boutique consulting firm specializing in R&D investment planning for energy storage and other hard-science ventures. His clients engage him as a fractional technology executive—developing R&D roadmaps aligned to finance and market realities, and leading projects from inception through manufacturing handoff. Current engagements include fractional CTO roles for companies in optical films and thermal energy storage, and battery manufacturing cost modeling and market analysis for a major energy research firm.

As an advisor to early-stage investors, Dr. Miller provides technology due diligence for venture funds across the US, Asia Pacific, Australia, Europe, and Latin America. As an expert witness, Dr. Miller has supported legal teams in nearly two dozen patent, trade secret, and contract disputes, involving billions in settlements and requested damages.
