Energy storage seminar 1
Perspectives to energy storage technologies and their use in energy and transport
The presentation will give an overview of energy storage and focus on current needs and solutions for storage in transport and energy applications. Perspectives on selected emerging technologies and solutions that offer new value to various end users in green electrification.
Versatile three-decade experience from industry and research in topics of energy generation, conversion and use. In recent years concentrated on emerging energy conversion and storage technologies and solutions for zero-emission transportation.
Megawatts to Megatrends: how energy storage is reshaping energy markets
From powering cities and industries to transforming global strategies, energy storage is no longer just a technical solution – it’s a market-shaping force. In this keynote, we explore how the shift from megawatts to megatrends is redefining the future of energy markets worldwide. Together, we’ll uncover the innovations and business models driving this transformation and what they mean for the next decade of energy.
Panel discussion: Energy Storage and price fluctuations
Interview: The Role of Pumped Storage in the Nordic Energy System
As the Nordic energy market transforms, the need for flexible power solutions has never been greater. Balancing electricity demand, stabilizing the system, and responding rapidly to short‑term fluctuations are becoming essential capabilities as weather‑dependent renewables continue to grow. In this interview, we explore whether pumped hydro storage could become a solution for managing market volatility — and how it may strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Nordic region.
Finland is already taking concrete steps. Kemijoki is advancing the preliminary planning of a pumped storage plant at Ailangantunturi in Kemijärvi. The environmental impact assessment is expected to conclude in spring 2026, with construction potentially starting as early as 2029.
Meanwhile, Fortum has launched a two-year feasibility study into new pumped storage capacity in Sweden — signaling strong momentum across the Nordics toward scalable, flexible and sustainable energy solutions.
