Mazaher Karimi

Associate Professor

Mazaher Karimi, an Associate Professor in electrical power engineering at the University of Vaasa, Finland, specializes in substation automation systems and green electrification of power networks using renewable energies. His research spans smart grid applications, distributed generation, power system stability, and frequency control. Previously, Karimi has held roles at Gonbad Kavous University in Iran, the University of Manchester on the EFCC Project, and Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, focusing on integrating renewable technologies into power systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Energy and Power Systems from the University of Malaya in 2013.

Mazaher Karimi is an Associate Professor in electrical power engineering, at the School of Technology and Innovations at the University of Vaasa, Finland. He is a senior member of the IEEE and has continued the research on the substation automation system, and wide-area monitoring protection and control scheme of the power system network, which is supplied by renewable energies and moving forward for green electrification. His current research interests also include; smart grid applications; distributed generation; power system stability, and frequency control.

He worked as an assistant professor at Gonbad Kavous University, Gonbad Kavous, Iran, and also acted as the head of the electrical engineering department. He worked as a Research Associate and Academic Visitor at the University of Manchester on the Enhanced Frequency Control Capability (EFCC) Project, awarded through Ofgem’s Network Innovation Competition. The project aims to investigate how renewable technologies such as wind farms, solar PV, and demand-side response, can contribute to maintaining system frequency. He has worked as a senior lecturer at the Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus (a branch of an Australian university) in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, for almost one year. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Energy and Power Systems from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2013.
