Finland is on a clear path towards carbon neutrality by 2035. Meeting this target will require deep decarbonisation across all sectors: heat, electricity and industrial processes. At the same time, ensuring energy security and affordability remain as top priorities.
Nuclear energy can play a pivotal role in Finland’s clean transition. By providing stable, low-carbon energy and heat, nuclear technologies can offer solutions that complement renewables and strengthen system resilience. Both small modular reactors and large conventional plants are needed to enable long-term, reliable energy production, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and support Finland’s competitiveness in a carbon-neutral future.
